Itinerary

Darwin to Broome

Day 1 - Friday

Darwin

At 11.00 am board Vessel at Darwin wharf for a 12.00 noon departure. Today cross the Cambridge Gulf and sail into Western Australian waters. This evening enjoy the Captain's Welcome Cocktail Party.

Day 2 - Saturday

King George River falls - Tranquil Bay

At approximately noon you arrive at King George River. With the Explorer, our specially designed excursion vessel, you explore the scenic gorges and view the mighty King George Waterfalls. Visit scenic Tranquil Bay for beach walking and exploration.

Day 3 - Sunday

Low-Rocks - Bigge Island

This morning visit the sea bird rookeries on Low-Rocks. If time permits, make a stop at Cape Voltaire for a swim and beach exploration. This afternoon you visit the amazing aboriginal rock art gallery on Bigge Island.

Day 4 - Monday

Naturalist Island - Mitchell Plateau

After cruising into Prince Frederick Harbour, anchor at Naturalist Island. Here, helicopters are available for optional scenic flights to the Surveyor and Mitchell Falls on the Mitchell Plateau where you can explore the surrounding area. A swim in the fresh water pools, and a spot of fishing is on offer. This evening enjoy a beach BBQ at sunset.

Day 5 - Tuesday

Careening Bay - Prince Regent Basin

Careening Bay: Our lecturers lead you to the site of a large boabab tree with the inscription of the shipwreck “HMC Mermaid - 1820” still clearly visible. This afternoon cruise into the very scenic Prince Regent Basin.

Day 6 - Wednesday

Prince Regent River - Kings Cascades - Camp Creek

With the xplorer, cruise the Prince Regent River and visit Kings Cascades, an unusual and picturesque waterfall cascading over terraced rock formations. You also visit Camp Creek for a picnic lunch and have an opportunity to swim in the fresh water ponds.

Day 7 - Thursday

Kuri Bay - Raft Point

Today cruise through Kuri Bay, home of the south sea pearl industry. You go ashore at Raft Point and visit a secluded and very interesting aboriginal rock art gallery. We also take the Explorer up one of the many river systems to the waterfalls and a fresh water swim. We may also plan an exploration stop or a chance to do some fishing.

Day 8 - Friday

Buccaneer Archipelago - Montgomery Reef - Talbot Bay

The Buccaneer Archipelago consists of more than 800 islands and this area experiences over 10 meter tidal ranges, one of the largest in the world! Here our landings and activities are planned around the tides - a way of life in the Kimberley region. Our plans include reef walks and a marine life study on Montgomery reef as well as cruise to Talbot Bay and an exciting journey by zodiac to the amazing Horizontal Waterfalls.

Day 9 - Saturday

King Sound/Crocodile Creek

Cruising through King Sound, witness the effects of the iron ore mining operations on Koolan and Cockatoo Islands. If time permits you may visit Cockatoo Island. Later visit Crocodile Creek for a BBQ with the opportunity of an enjoyable fresh water swim.

Day 10 - Sunday

Yampi Sound - Lacepede Islands

Cruising through Yampi Sound, you visit the Lacapede Islands. These islands are situated well off shore and are known for their turtle nestings, as well as Brown Booby and Lesser Frigate bird colonies. This evening enjoy the Captain's Farewell Cocktail Party.

Day 11 - Monday

Broome

This morning arrive Broome at approximately 8.30 am. Disembark with wonderful memories of your “Kimberley” adventure.
