Day 1
La Paz
Arrive into La Paz, the capital of Bolivia. The world’s highest city (3600 metres) which also claims the highest golf course and ski run and the highest navigable lake. One thousand years ago Bolivia was part of the fabled Inca Empire and the ruins of the early civilisations and many of the Inca’s descendants are still to be found. On arrival you will be transferred to your hotel.
Day 2
La Paz
This morning tour the city and a few miles away, the Valley of the Moon where erosion has given the clay an “other world” appearance. See the fascinating and timeless Indian markets, beautiful colonial churches and more modern residential areas. Afternoon at leisure. B
Day 3
La Paz
This morning visit Tiahuanaco, the capital of a great civilisation that started, according to the latest radio carbon test, in 1580 BC. This civilisation developed through five periods and covered, at the height of its splendour (around 700 AD), an area of 232,558sq miles (600,00 km2) and was one of the biggest cities in the world with more than 100,000 inhabitants. The Tiahuanacan artisans worked the mysterious monoliths that characterise these ruins, several of them in granite. At present only 20% of the area is under research and being excavated, but you can see the ruins of aqueducts, temples and the famous Gate of the Sun, which is carved with symmetrical figures. The structure of the physical remains indicates that the social organisation reached one of the highest level of civilisation on this continent. B

Check out of your hotel this morning and you will be transferred to the airport for your flight. B
