yet non-threatening environment. BOOK
NOW!
Cuba is almost always in the news. The legendary 77 year old Cuban leader,
Fidel Castro Ruz, recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of the fateful
Moncada attack – the event that sparked the famous revolution and
swept him to power five years later. The resilience of the Cuban revolutionary
Government has created a nation that almost stands still in cold war time.
However these days are coming to an end. When Soviet funds were withdrawn
over a decade ago, Cuba was obliged to find new sources of foreign capital.
Consequently, tourism has emerged as a valuable contribution to Cuba’s
delicate economy and visitor numbers are now over one million annually
– despite sanctions by the US government, preventing it’s
citizens spending US dollars in Cuba.
When the tourism floodgates from the USA finally open, Cuba will be transformed
rapidly and irreversibly. Much of the charm and character will be altered.
In essence, a second Cuban Revolution!
Cuba’s attraction as a tourist destination is due in part because
of the world’s curiosity with this stubborn regime. But Cuba, in
its own right, is a vibrant and exciting destination blessed with idyllic
beaches and fascinating early Spanish history dating back to Columbus.
More recent figures like Ernest Hemingway, Desi Arnaz, Celia Cruz and
Gloria Estefan reinforce the romance and passion of the island. The island’s
rich musical heritage has reached world popularity with musicians such
as the Buena Vista Social Club and the Afro-Cuban Allstars.
We think there is some urgency in visiting Cuba just the way it is and,
after thirty years in the business, we know our clients have come to expect
unusual and enthralling destinations. The mystique and rich culture of
Cuba is a fitting complement to our portfolio of adventure tours.
The all-inclusive, fully-escorted 19-day “April Sun in Cuba”
tour offers stopovers in Los Angeles and an optional Costa Rica extension.
Prices start at AU$7990 per person. For further information and reservations
please contact Robyn Smith on (02) 9389 7466 during business hours.
