This fascinating 5 day tour brings to life The Lord of Sipan revealed to the world in 1987. He reigned approximately 200 A.D. and died about 40 years of age. Sipan is located in the northern part of Peru, close to the coast, in the middle of Lambayeque Valley, 35 Kms east of Chiclayo. Four tombs have been found in Sipan's Huaca Rajada, the huaca is a mausoleum built by the Moche culture that once rules in the region.

Day 1

Lima - Trujillo

Fly to Trujillo where, on arrival you are met and transferred to your hotel and assisted with check-in. Overnight in Trujillo.

Day 2

Trujillo: City Tour & Chan Chan

Morning city tour of Trujillo visiting the beautiful 18th century colonial mansions and churches. Visit includes the Archaeological Museum of 'Universidad Nacional de Trujillo'. Then visit the monuments of Huacas del Sol y de la Luna, located on the left bank of the Moche River on a plain below the imposing Cerro Blanco. Later drive to the seaside town of Huanchaco and watch the local fishermen on their traditional 'Caballitos de Totora'. Lunch in Huanchaco and then you will visit the ancient mud-brick City of Chan Chan, the largest Pre-Columbian city in South America and site of the largest adobe structure ever built. Constructed circa 1300 A.D., Chan Chan's secret rooms and sunken gardens cover 28 square kilometres. Overnight in Trujillo.BL

Day 3

Trujillo - Chiclayo: Lord Of Sipan & Pampa Grande

This morning transfer with escort by road along the Pan –American Highway (3 hours) to Chiclayo, 500 miles north of Lima, where you check in to your hotel. Depart your hotel this afternoon on a tour (4/5 hours) firstly to Huaca Rajada, the ancient mud brick burial platform where the fabulous tomb of the Lord of Sipan was discovered in 1987 by Peruvian archeologist Walter Alva. The Lord of Sipan, a warrior priest from the Mochica civilisation lived about 2,000 years ago on the northern coast of Peru. He was buried amidst a dazzling array of gold artifacts studded with precious stones such as a funeral mask, headdresses, crowns, necklaces, nose and ear ornaments and figurines, together with pottery, and textiles. (These items are to be found in the Brunning Museum which is visited tomorrow). Visit the on site museum and then continue on to the 7th Century A.D. Moche site of Pampa Grande, also known as La Capilla and considered the largest standing adobe pyramid in South America. Return to Chiclayo and your hotel. B

Day 4

Chiclayo: Brunning Museum & Túcume Pyramids

Your tour today (4/5 hours) includes a visit to Brunning Museum with its collection of gold, silver and copper jewellery, pottery and textiles for an introduction to the culture and history of the Lambayeque area. Afterwards, visit the brand new Tumbas Reales Museum to discover the historical richness there. Continue on to Túcume Pyramid where there are excavations of a vast (circa 1000 – 13500 A.D.) complex of massive pyramids, temple mounds and monumental architecture. Return to Chiclayo and your hotel. B

Day 5

Chiclayo - Lima

At the scheduled time, you are met at your hotel and transferred to Chiclayo airport for your flight to Lima. If your flight to Lima departs in the late afternoon or evening there could be morning time at leisure to explore Chiclayo's foremost 'witches' market, with archaeological curios and fine handicrafts. B
