Posada Amazonas Lodge

Peru

Duration:4 days

Posada Amazonas is a 30 bedroom lodge owned by the Community of Infierno and managed with Rainforest Expeditions. Thanks to its accessibility, it offers excellent wildlife opportunities.

Day 1

Puerto – Posada Amazonas

Upon arrival from Cuzco or Lima, you are met at the airport and transferred to Puerto Maldonado. You then board boats for a one hour trip by motorised canoe to Posada Amazonas. Enjoy a short orientation and a complete briefing on the lodge and the Ecotourism Project. Then visit a 35 metre scaffolding tower for spectacular views of the river and the surrounding forest. LD

Day 2

Posada Amazonas

You will be up at dawn for a visit to the Tres Chimbadas oxbow lake. After an early breakfast, take a 30 minute walk to the lake shore. Look for giant river otters, turtles, hoatzin, and wading birds. In the afternoon visit the community’s ethnobotanical center. The community has been registering the uses of medicinal plants from local elders and planting, producing and distributing them for over ten years. Tonight an optional walk to look for amphibians and insects. BLD

Day 3

Posada Amazonas

After breakfast visit a clay lick, where from the ‘blind’, even an amateur photographer can take great pictures of these wonderful birds. You will also have the opportunity to spot other spectacular wildlife, active at this time of the day. Scarlet or blue and gold macaws and a great deal of other bird life. We embark on a two hour hike crowned by the largest tree in the vicinity: a giant Ceiba tree. A thirty minute boat drive takes you to the most complete farm in the Community of Infierno. BLD

Day 4

Posada – Puerto Maldonado

After an early breakfast, depart by boat back to Puerto Maldonado, directly to the airport, in time for your flight back to Cuzco or Lima. B
